ABU Will Embark On Problem-solving Research To Solve North’s Most Daunting Challenges - VC

The new Vice Chancellor of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Professor Adamu Ahmed has assured that the renowned institution will within the next five years, embark on rigorous research to proffer solutions to problems confronting the North in particular, and Nigeria in general.

He expressed this yesterday, while fielding questions from our correspondent, who sought to know his plans after emerging vice chancellor.

"My vision for the future begins from looking back into history. Let us recall that at its founding, the Sardauna of Sokoto gave this university a clear two-fold mandate: first, to train the skilled workforce needed to develop the North; and second, to undertake research that would directly address the region ’s development challenges.

"While the first mandate has been largely fulfilled — with ABU producing generations of leaders, professionals, and public servants — the second remains, at best, only modestly explored.

"Over the next five years therefore, we will commit ourselves to closing this gap — by undertaking impactful, problem-solving research that not only confronts the North’s most daunting challenges, but also creates wealth and opportunity through innovation and business incubation. It means also that our strategic priorities will focus on:Aligning teaching with the demands of today’s job market and tomorrow’s global economy," he said.

Speaking further, he said that such research would be geared towards, "expanding our contributions to global scholarship and increasing partnerships across borders.
