Nigeria Customs Kano/Jigawa Command Engages Market Associations To Enhance Trade Facilitation

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Kano/Jigawa Area Command  convened a stakeholder engagement meeting with members of various market associations in Kano on Friday 1 November 2024 to address concerns and promote trade facilitation.

This was made known in a statement made available by the CPRO Kano/Jigawa Area Command, SC Saidu Nuruddeen
on behalf of the Customs Area Controller, dated  November 2, 2024.

It said that the representatives from Singa, Kantin Kwari, Sabon Gari, Kano shop owners, online marketers, and Blouse Dealers Association amongst others shared experiences of unethical conducts from some patrol officers, particularly on Kano to Zaria and Kano to Wudil roads among other locations.

In their response, the Customs Area Controller in charge of Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana and that of Kaduna Command Comptroller Ahmed Tijjani Abe (who equally represented the Comptroller FOU B) acknowledged the challenges of multiple checkpoints hindering trade facilitation and promised to take drastic action to ameliorate their concerns.

They also enlightened the stakeholders on the operational exigencies of the service especially the role of Customs Police Unit that investigates and ensure discipline in all NCS operations.

They pledged noticeable improvements within a week as mechanisms  will be put in place to avert further occurrences. The NCS help desk numbers 0201889888, 0201889889 and other online communication channels are encouraged to be used by the public for formal complaints against any customs personnel.

The meeting demonstrates the service commitment to transparency, accountability, and trade facilitation.
